“A wood duck chick is called to jump out by mama just one day after hatching. I have three nesting boxes each with a Blink camera inside so I can know when this event will happen, and have the NikonD7200 ready for the special fledging! Because they have no wings yet, they bounce, roll and plop to the ground, so it is adorable to watch,” says reader Sue Clark.

Go Your Own Way
“Five black-bellied whistling ducks preparing to set off. Well, four focused on the flight ahead—and one distracted by who-knows-what. There’s always one, isn’t there?” says reader Stephanie Inglehart.

Mirror, Mirror
“This photo was taken at Lake Manatee State Park in Bradenton, Florida. I used a Panasonic Lumix DC-FZ80. Duckback Riding
“I was birding at a lake in Zephyrhills, Florida, with the hopes of coming away with a few good photos. At one of the narrower ends of the lake, I noticed a female wood duck with a few ducklings paddling around her. I rested by the edge of the water and observed them for a while. One of them climbed up on mom’s back and enjoyed a 10-minute recess from the hustle and bustle of life on the lake. It was delightful to watch the female wood duck make her rounds with the little one nestled on her back,” says reader Peter Brannon.

Duck, Duck, Butterfly
“While Visiting Rothwell Park in Moberly, Missouri, I took this picture of ducks playing at the lake in spring. Just as the ducks were playing around, an eastern tiger swallowtail decided to fly by attracting the attention of one of the ducks,” says reader Pam Stewart.
